What is a Good Faith Estimate? A “Good Faith Estimate” explains how much your medical care will cost. Under the law, health care providers need to give patients - who don’t have insurance or who are not using insurance - an estimate of the bill for medical items and services.
You have the right to receive a Good Faith Estimate for the total expected cost of any non-emergency items or services. This includes related costs like medical tests, prescription drugs, equipment, and hospital fees.
Make sure your health care provider gives you a Good Faith Estimate in writing at least 1 business day before your medical service or item. Here at Counseling Services of Greenville, you will be invited to the client portal which will contain a document with an estimate of your out-of-pocket costs if you are not using insurance.
Currently, our out-of-pocket costs for our independently licensed clinicians are $105 for a 60 minute session including assessment, individual, or family sessions and $95 for a 45 minute brief session. Our graduate intern has a lower rate that will be discussed upon intake.
If you receive a bill that is at least $400 more than your Good Faith Estimate, you can dispute the bill. Please note that this does not apply to insurance claims, and the cost of your sessions with the use of insurance will be based on the individual’s contract with their insurance company. Make sure to save a copy or picture of your Good Faith Estimate. This will remain available to you in your client portal.
For questions or more information about your right to a Good Faith Estimate, visit www.cms.gov/nosurprises or call our office manager at 864-326-4696.

FAQs
Which Therapist can I see?
Our therapists are sometimes not able to take on more clients as our schedules become too full to meet the needs of our current clients. If this is the case, you will not be able to choose the therapist when making an initial assessment session. If you do not see the therapist listed that you would like to see, feel free to email us and see if you can be added to your chosen therapist’s waitlist.
How can I find out if you take my insurance?
As you choose your therapist in our Appointments section, you will see a list of what insurance companies are accepted by your therapist. Not every therapist takes every insurance provider, and if you have questions about this please email us with a picture of the front and back of your insurance card and your DOB. Please note that this is not a guarantee of coverage we recommend that you call your insurance company to determine your out-of-pocket costs.
Can I change counselors?
If your counselor is not a good fit, please know that we understand and want you to feel as comfortable as you can on your journey toward mental wellness. Please let your counselor know how you feel (we completely understand) and we can help you find another therapist here, or can help you find a referral that will work best for you!
Can I use my EAP (Employee Assistance Plan) Benefits?
Not every counselor takes every Employee Assistance Plan (EAP). Please call us to ensure that your selected therapist accepts the EAP that you hope to use. When signing up online, please choose the EAP option. In your intake packet that is sent once you make a new appointment, please make sure you choose “EAP” as your insurer instead of your commercial plan, and enter the authorization number provided to you by the EAP instead of your commercial member ID. If you enter your commercial plan information, we will bill your commercial plan. Please note you will have a session number limit and an authorization time period after which your sessions will expire, and your sessions will be 45-50 minutes rather than 55 minutes.
